Different Styles Have Different dB!
The example below lists the suggested safe volume levels and associated listening times for three different types of headphones. Different styles can make a big difference in volume. What's considered a safe volume for almost 5 hours for one style of headphone can cause damage in just 50 minutes with another style of headphones. Check the guide to see where your listening habits fit in.

Stock iPod Earbud Headphones
Earbud style iPod headphones (included with your iPod) are called "earbuds" because they place the source of the sound into your ear canal.
Supra-Aural Style Headphones
Supra-Aural style design describes the type of headphone that rests on top of the ear.
Isolator Style Headphones
Isolator style headphones are similar to the iPod stock earbuds. However, their design extends deeper into the ear canal, providing better isolation from outside noise.
